Roadside Drainage Maintenance Initiative
Waamo Waste Management Company began preventive cleaning of roadside drainage channels in Kismayo. It removed accumulated sand, rubbish, and other materials that obstruct rainwater. During the initial operation on 27 September, our field team worked along two roads. They covered about 3.5 kilometers of cleaning activity. Workers removed sand and mixed waste from drainage areas. They loaded the material into company vehicles.
They transported it outside the city for disposal. The operation forms part of Waamo’s efforts to support cleaner streets. It also improves drainage maintenance and reduces avoidable obstructions ahead of seasonal rainfall. This waamo sanitation solution aims to improve drainage and reduce obstructions. Keeping drainage channels clear helps reduce flood risk. Continued maintenance and broader infrastructure measures remain essential.
Our field teams are documenting their activities so that progress can be measured and future cleaning priorities identified. We encourage residents and businesses to avoid dumping rubbish into drains and to report blocked drainage points before heavy rainfall. Waamo remains committed to practical, accountable sanitation services and collaboration with Kismayo’s communities and relevant local authorities.
